A necklift is a type of cosmetic surgery that aims to improve the appearance of the neck by tightening loose skin and underlying muscles and removing excess fat either by excision or liposuction. A person with a double chin, turkey wattle or excess skin is a good candidate for a necklift.

A necklift is an outpatient procedure performed under local or general anesthesia by a board certified specialist. An incision is made in front of the ear for correction of a minimally sagging neck or under the ear lobe extending behind the ear for severe corrections. The skin from the ear to the middle of the chin and neck is lifted. Underlying muscles and tissues are tightened, and excess fat is removed. If warranted, excess skin is removed as well before the closure of the incisions.

A patient can resume work within seven to 10 days after the surgery. For a quick recovery, patients should follow the instructions of the specialist and also keep their head and neck area elevated while sleeping.
