side effect of breat augmentation

I had a breast augmentation 2 years ago this month. Everything appeared to go well. However I still have limited sensation in my breast/nipple. Most often pain when my nipples are stimulated by my spouse. Will I ever regain sensation?

At two-years out from surgery, this is likely the maximum sensation that will come back. Nerves were either cut or damaged and would have regenerated or healed by this point. This is one of the known risks of breast augmentation surgery and in good hands, happens about 5% of the time. Hopefully the pain component will resolve over time.

Not likely after this much time.

Breast augmentation through any incision can cause loss of sensitivity but in the minority of cases (usually less than 1%). If you have not regained it at two years, there is a good chance that you will not.

Thank you for your question. Loss or reduction in sensation for the nipple and areola his a potential complication of breast augmentation surgery. Nerve regeneration is a very slow process and, albeit rare, I have seen isolated cases where nipple sensation improved after 2 years. I hope you feel better with time.

It is not unusual for some women to have hypersensitivity in the nipple area, or pain in those areas for a few months. Every patient is different and heals at their own rate. Just be patient, massage the nipple area 2-3 times a day, and that should help.
