Is it possible to remove keloid scars without cutting the skin?

Is there anyway to remove keloid scars without cutting the skin?

There are a number of ways to treat keloid scars that do not involve excision. This includes injections (Kenalog/steroids, 5-Fu) and radiation therapy (often reserved for lesions most refractory to treatment).

As always, discuss your concerns with a board-certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Some keloids can be removed with kenalog injections. This method would be based upon an evaluation with your physician.

Keloid scars can be lowered with a kenalog steroid injection and can be lightened with castle twin products, IPL and laser treatments. Surgical removal of a scare, keloid or otherwise, is the choice to remove the scar and the intention to replace it with a better, less noticeable scar. However, this cannot be guaranteed and there is no guarantee that the new scar will not keloid. There are over-the-counter scar creams that make various bold claims. It has been my experience that these may have a small, if any, benefit and only when the scar is relatively new or fresh. But these should not be used on any area where there is a break in the skin.
