It would be very unusual that insurance would cove a tummy tuck. Even in my post-bariatric patients it is hard to get it covered, but we do try for the patient!

Insurance will only cover those procedures for which a medical necessity has been demonstrated, and more importantly documented. An abdominoplasty ("tummy-tuck") for cosmetic reasons will not be covered. This is not to be confused with a panniculetcomy (abdominal pannus/skin apron excision), which is often covered for reasons related to chronic intertriginous rashes. This is often seen in the bariatric surgery/massive weight loss population.

As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).
