Many women suffer from breast asymmetry, a condition where one breast is noticeably larger than the other, and opt for breast asymmetry correction. While this is generally not a medical problem (except in cases of extreme asymmetry which may result in muscle fatigue or similar issues), it is nonetheless a concern for cosmetic reasons in many cases. To help address these concerns, many women undergo a breast asymmetry correction surgery. This cosmetic surgery helps to either reduce the size of the larger breast or, more commonly, augment the smaller breast to achieve a more even size.
Breast asymmetry either involves the use of liposuction techniques to remove excess tissue from the larger of the two breasts, or it makes use of silicone or saline implants to help augment the size of the smaller breast. Patients determine their ideal goals for the surgery and consult with the surgeon before operating in order to determine the best course of action.
After the surgery, most patients experience some mild discomfort and the recuperation period lasts for three weeks or so. During this time, physical activity must be avoided while the patient follows the surgeon's instructions to ensure that the incisions heal properly. For more information about whether a breast asymmetry correction surgery may be right for you, contact a doctor or a cosmetic surgeon.
