Is my scar going to be permanent? Is there anything that can be done?

I got in a bad accident 6 weeks ago. How do I know if the road rash is tattooed? If it is can anything be done?

All scars are permanent; however, they do evolve over time. Immature scars are generally more noticeable than mature scars (thicker, raised, pigmented). With time, much of this will improve.

With regards to your specific question, a traumatic tattoo can be treated with laser therapy and dermabrasion. However, it may take upwards of 1 year for all of your symptoms to resolve.

As always, discuss your concerns with a board-certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

I would recommend using ScaRx Tape. If you have tattooing at this time, it may be permanent.

Scars are permanent. However, they get less obvious with time. The road rash tattoo should have been cleaned out at the time of the injury. I would seek a board-certified plastic surgeon to see if it can be corrected now.
