Scars are permanent. That being said, there are a number of treatments available for addressing different aspects of scars.

Thickened or pathologic scars (keloids) can be treated with serial steroid injections. This can have a softening and flattening effect.

There are a number of laser/light treatments to address coloration as well as contour/textural irregularities.

As always, discuss your concerns with a board-certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

If there is enough skin available, excise the scar. However, there is a chance additional scarring could occur from the procedure.
