How do you deal with hypertensive patients both in screening and prior to surgery?
The blood pressure must be under control before, during, and after the surgery. One's PCP or internist usually optimizes medical therapy before surgery takes place.

In my practice, all patients must be in overall good health, and any hypertensive issues must be controlled by medication or under the direct care of their physician. Patients over the age of 50 must have a current EKG, as well as consistent normal blood pressure readings at their preoperative appointment and immediately before surgery. If a patient is suspected of having uncontrolled or undiagnosed hypertension, surgery cannot proceed. Only board-certified physician anesthesiologists administer the anesthesia in our accredited surgery facility, so the risk of problems is greatly reduced due to their training and expertise.

Thanks for your question and the information you provided.. I would recommend you always have all your tests done before surgery. Your surgeon has to examinate you with a cardiologist to prevent any complications due to your hypertensive state.
