Could breast reconstruction make my breasts the same size?

My breasts are not the same size and it is noticeable. I want to know how to fix the problem. Would breast reconstruction or any another procedure help?

If the breasts are large, a reduction mammoplasty can even the breasts. If the desire is for larger size, implants of different sizes can create balance--125 cc's for a AAA-A, 150 cc's for B-C, 200 cc's for D-DD. This, of course, is an approximation.

I'm uncertain what you mean by "breast reconstruction." Typically, the term "breast reconstruction" is used for someone who has had a mastectomy. If your breasts are two different sizes, but the contours are the same, then all you might need is a breast augmentation to the smaller breast, or perhaps both if you would like to go larger. If the contour is different--for instance, one breast is smaller and sagging-- then you might need a breast lift and augmentation. As you can see, the answer to your question is not that straight forward. A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon would certainly lead you in the right direct.

Breast surgery can help make it less noticeable and possibly very close in size and appearance, but it is unlikely that your breasts will be exactly the same. That being said, I have many patients who have gone through the process and are extremely happy with their results.

Breast reconstruction, breast lifts, and breast reductions all make the breasts SIMILAR. However, none of these procedures can guarantee that the breasts will be identical. There are minor differences that always exist preoperatively, and they may exist postoperatively as well.

There are many ways to correct asymmetrical breasts. Your options would depend on your current size and your goals. If you wish to increase your breast size, different sized breast implants can be placed (a larger implant on your current smaller side and vice versa). Some patients do require a slight lift of one or both sides depending on the degree of laxity in the breast(s) (if any).

If your breasts are on the larger side, a reduction can be performed. If you'd like both reduced, we would just take out more tissue on the larger side to achieve better balance. If you are happy with the size of your smaller breast, a reduction can be done on the larger breast only to have it more closely match the smaller side. You may require a lift on the smaller side to get then to look as alike as possible.

I recommend that you seek a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options.

Your question is not an uncommon one, and most women have some asymmetry of their breasts. However, if it is noticeable and there is a large discrepancy in the sizes, breast implant surgery can correct the problem. This, unfortunately, is not covered under insurance as it is considered a cosmetic procedure (even though we know that you were born this way). I have performed breast implant surgery for many women who have a noticeable difference in the size of their breasts with satisfied results. I advise you to seek a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience in performing this procedure for women like you. I hope that this helps answer your question.
