Body Lift / Contouring in Houston, Texas (TX)

Body lift/contouring are cosmetic procedures that are most often performed after a significant weight loss to give contour and definition to the body. This is accomplished by removing the excess saggy and loose skin. Among the surgical choices are: a tummy tuck, arm lift, lower body contouring, thigh lift, buttock lift and more. Several surgical procedures are often necessary to achieve the desired aesthetic result.

If planned weight loss is complete and the desired weight has been stable for four to six months, body lift/contouring is a good option. Waiting this period of time after weight loss allows the skin to naturally contract to the maximum ability before surgical intervention.

This cosmetic surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. Regardless of the specific procedure, incisions are made in the most inconspicuous areas. The excess skin is removed and, sometimes, liposuction is performed in the area to finish off the smooth appearance. A supportive dressing is applied, along with a wound drain, if needed. A drain is sometimes kept in place for a few days to divert any excess swelling.

Most patients plan to be out of work for two to three weeks after surgery. Physical activity will be restricted for four to six weeks to allow a full recovery. During the recovery phase, most procedures require a compressive support garment to be worn; this keeps post-operative swelling to a minimum. Once the post-operative swelling has abated, about four to eight weeks, the final outcome of body contouring/lift surgery can be appreciated.
