Nose Surgery

Getting Work Done on the Nose

The nose is a prominent feature of the face, and as such a lot of people are concerned about the way their nose looks. Rhinoplasty surgery, more commonly referred to as a nose job, is a medical procedure used to enhance the attractiveness of the nose or repair breathing functions. People who have suffered broken noses, or are just unhappy with the look and shape of their nose, can consider rhinoplasty to improve their looks.

What Happens During a Rhinoplasty?

The rhinoplasty is a fairly simple procedure. It is an outpatient surgery performed with either general or local anesthesia. Generally, incisions involved in the nose job are made in the nostrils, though in certain complex situations, cuts must be made in the base of the nose as well. Once inside, the surgeon reshapes the bone and cartilage, restructuring the nose to accent the patient’s natural facial beauty.

Recovery Time After a Nose Surgery

It takes upwards of two weeks to fully recover from a rhinoplasty – after which a person who you met for the first time would never know you’d had work done. During the recovery period, it is advisable to avoid any physically demanding tasks, and get as much rest as you can. A nose splint will be applied during this time to hold the desired shape of your nose. There’ll be some bruising and swelling that should start to fade in just a couple of days, but could last for the full two to three weeks or recovery.

Expense of Nose Surgery

The price for a rhinoplasty can range from $3,000 to $8,000. The final price is dependent on a number of factors, such as the complexity of the work, facility fees, and the individual surgeon’s skill level. Talk with your surgeon about your needs and expectations for the nose surgery, and he or she should give you an appropriate estimate.

Rhinoplasty Risks and Complications

In addition to the standard risks associated with any surgery, which include possibility of infection or a negative reaction to anesthesia, there are a few other possible complications associated with rhinoplasty. Some people experience nosebleeds for up to four weeks after a nose surgery. Additionally, there’s a chance of loss of smell or sinusitis. Finally, there’s always the risk the surgeon made a mistake and the shape of the nose is asymmetrical or otherwise unpleasing.
