Nose Reshaping for Men

Nose reshaping is an extremely popular cosmetic procedure that is primarily sought by men.  In the past plastic surgery was considered to be something that only women took advantage of.  Now statistics are showing the men take advantage of cosmetic surgery just as often as women.  Rhinoplasty has become extremely popular with men since many men have found that with a bit of reshaping their profiles and facial features become more appealing.  In addition to providing confidence rhinoplasty for men can also help fix physical deformities and even help with breathing problems that many men experience.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

The average nose job for men begins with an incision being made either across the skin of the nose or inside the skin of the nose.  This incision separates the nostrils giving the plastic surgeon access to the bone and cartilage.  During the procedure the surgeon reshapes the bone and cartilage sculpting the nose into the shape and size that patient has previously specified.  When the reshaping is complete the plastic surgeon stitches the incision shut.   The procedure can take anywhere from one to three hours and since it is performed while the patient is under a general anesthetic someone must be present to provide transportation.

Recovery After Nose Reshaping

Immediately after the surgery patients will experience swelling and bruising.  Since the nose is packed with gauze to help maintain the new nasal structure.  During the period immediately following the surgery you will need to wait at least 10 days before resuming a normal routine.  During this time the majority of the swelling and bruising will go down.  Doctors will prescribe pain medication to help with pain management and most men are encouraged to take advantage of ice packs and other cold compresses to help with the pain and swelling.  While your nose is healing you will be forced to breath through your mouth and the healing process will not be finished for at least four months.  At the end of four months your doctor should be ready to remove the bandaging and let you see your new nose.

Side Effects Caused by Nose Reshaping

There are many side effects associated with rhinoplasty with the primary one being pain.  While there are some men who claim to experience only mild discomfort immediately following the surgery most say that it is a painful experience that is only tolerable with the use of medications.  Along with the pain there is always the risk of infection while the incision is healing and blood vessels inside of the nose have been known to burst leaving small scars on the inside of the nose.
