What to Expect from Facelift Surgery Consultation?

Your surgeon will discuss your goals with you and explain what can be achieved realistically for you with a facelift.  It is generally recommended that patients bring photos of yourself at an earlier age to show your original facial look so that the surgeon has a good idea of what you want. Most patients want to achieve a more attractive, younger look without looking too different. Others may want a greater amount of change.

Initial Facelift Assessment

The surgeon will want to know precisely what your expectations are for your facelift.  Communication is key in that your surgeon needs to be able to suggest an appropriate procedure to meet your expectations.  Based on your expectations, the surgeon may suggest alternative or additional procedures to attain your desired results.  Make sure the surgeon shows you pictures of examples of facelift surgery performed.

The Examination for Facelift Surgery

The surgeon may ask you about your previous medical history.  He will also examine your face before planning surgery.  The physical exam gives the surgeon a good idea how to plan the facelift and if he will need to suggest additional procedures.  The surgeon and the anesthesiologist will want to know about any preexisting conditions that may pose risk during the procedure and following surgery.  These may include heart disease, diabetes, allergies to medications, or previous surgical procedures.  Also, let your surgeon and anesthesiologist know about any medications you are currently taking.

This information is meant to give you an idea of what the consultation will entail and is not meant as a substitute for discussing your surgery with a board certified, licensed plastic surgeon.
