Non-Invasive Alternatives to Breast Reduction Surgery

Many women opt to have a breast reduction surgery when troubled by large breasts. These women often suffer with difficulty breathing, back pain, shoulder and neck pain, and even at times, embarrassment. Non-invasive alternatives to breast surgery do exist.

Weight Loss

Weight loss may help to reduce the size of the breasts. Many individuals lose as much as half a cup and others lose one full cup size. As a woman ages, the breasts become less dense and have more fat. If the breasts contain more fat, then there is more of a possibility of reducing the breasts with general weight loss. However, some women remain with large breasts even when they lose weight and are slim.

Liposuction for Breasts

Liposuction offers a minimally invasive procedure in comparison to the traditional breast reduction surgery. This treatment can often minimize the breasts by 30 to 50 percent. Candidates that are more suitable for the Liposuction treatment method are women that have more fat in their breasts. The traditional Mammoplasty is more for the candidates that have more glandular tissue in the breasts than fat. Glandular tissue is difficult to remove with Liposuction.

Liposuction for breasts will not normally cause any scarring, but because the skin itself is not reduced, it may cause sagging of the breasts.

Laser-Assisted Breast Reduction

Laser-assisted breast reduction can make a traditional breast reduction surgery less invasive. A procedure called 'deepithelialization' (wedge resection technique of preparing the skin to allow it to grow together with the adjacent skin) is normally done traditionally with scissors and scalpels. With laser-assisted breast reduction, there is less stretching of the skin, resulting in less blood loss and a less invasive surgery. Healing time could therefore be faster with less downtime.

Natural Herbal Pills

There are a few leading herbal supplements that have been known to help to reduce the breast size, however, they do not work for everyone. It is important to always seek the advice of a physician (who is familiar with the individual's complete medical history) before beginning any type of herbal supplement program.

Weight Training Exercises

Weight training exercises that work on the pectoral muscles can change the way breasts appear, but will not normally make much of an impact on actually reducing the size. So, if the reason for the breast reduction is for appearance, then this may be an option. As yet, there are no known exercises that will specifically target the breasts.

Some back and chest exercises may tighten and tone the breasts. Push-ups are another form of exercises that can be done to make the chest muscles stronger and tighter. Aerobic exercises like walking, running, jogging and bicycling may contribute to breast reduction with the overall loss of body weight.

A healthy balanced diet along with an exercise program may help to reduce the size of the breasts. The advice of a dietitian and a certified fitness trainer may help to achieve overall weight loss, which may minimize the size of the breasts for many.ᅠAgain, exercise and weight loss may not be a successful option for breast reduction for everyone, but will certainly offer health benefits. Always seek the recommendation of a physician before beginning a new diet or exercise program.

Hormonal Balancing

If the reason for the larger breasts is because of a hormonal imbalance, then balancing the hormones in the body may help to minimize the breasts without the invasive surgery. An individual should never attempt to treat herself with hormone therapy. Always consult a certified medical professional when beginning any type of breast reduction therapy treatment.
