Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy bear implants, or cohesive gel breast implants, are a type of breast implant that many plastic surgeons consider to be the best type of implant.  Mentor breast implants use a special type of cohesive silicone in gummy bear breast implants that when used in augmentation surgery better replicate the look and feel of real breast tissue.  Formerly, memory gel implants were a type of implant used exclusively in reconstructive surgery.  Now gummy bear breast implants are used for aesthetic surgeries as well.  More expensive that saline implants and slightly less pliable, memory gel implants cannot be inserted though the popular trans umbilical method.  A larger incision is required for gummy bear implants and this deters some women from this type. This surgery will be completed on an outpatient basis like other types of breast implant surgeries; the patient will usually return home the same day as surgery. Overall, gummy bear implants, like the mentor gel implant, are a great option for women who want a natural looking and feeling breast.

Risks of Gummy Bear Implant Surgery

Gummy bear breast implant surgery is not without risks.  Because of the increased size of the incision needed, the time for healing might in some cases take a little longer than other implant surgery.  Other risks of memory gel implants include:

  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Decreased nipple sensation
  • Rupture of implant (a risk with any type of implant not only gummy bear breast implants)
  • Inability to breast feed in the future
