Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation

What is laser vaginal rejuvenation?
Laser vaginal rejuvenation comprises a number of laser-assisted procedures designed to improve the appearance and structure of the vagina, labia, and other genital structures.

What are the benefits of laser vaginal rejuvenation?
Laser vaginal rejuvenation can tighten and tone sagging, loose or excess tissues in the vaginal and labial areas, eliminating discomfort that can be caused when these tissues are chafed or irritated during daily activities, and especially during sexual activity. Laser energy is a great modality for tightening these tissues, improving overall appearance of the genital area and improving confidence and sexual pleasure. Laser vaginal rejuvenation is also a great option for women with obviously asymmetrical labias, who may feel uncomfortable wearing swimsuits and other close-fitting clothing. In addition to tightening and strengthening the muscles and walls of the vagina, laser vaginal rejuvenation decreases both the exterior and internal vaginal diameters, increasing friction and making intercourse more pleasurable for both partners. By tightening the structures of the vagina, labia, pelvic floor, and perineum, laser vaginal rejuvenation can also help reduce or eliminate incontinence which occurs as a result of age or pregnancy.

Who is a candidate for laser vaginal rejuvenation?
Any woman who has loose, sagging vaginal or labial tissue, and who is looking for a procedure that involves less downtime and which is less invasive than traditional surgical techniques, can be a good candidate for the laser vaginal rejuvenation procedures. Your specialist can help you decide if laser-assisted techniques are right for you and the goals you’d like to achieve.

Who is not a candidate for laser vaginal rejuvenation?
Individuals with chronic medical conditions which cause genital sores or lesions to form may not be ideal candidates for laser vaginal rejuvenation. Your specialist can offer advice about whether or not the procedure is right for you.

How is the procedure performed?
Laser vaginal rejuvenation can involve one or more different procedures. Most procedures are performed in a surgical center, and involve local anesthesia with or without sedation. These procedures are minimally invasive, using no incisions or sutures. Laser vaginal rejuvenation procedures include vaginal tightening, or vaginoplasty; labia remodeling, or labiaplasty; and perineoplasty, which tightens the perineum, the area between the vagina and the anus. Most procedures take an hour or less to perform.

Laser vaginal rejuvenation methods can also be used in conjunction with traditional vaginal rejuvenation surgery to enhance and refine results.

What is the recovery like?
Most women report little discomfort following their laser vaginal rejuvenation procedure, and many women can return to their normal routines within one to three days of their procedure. In addition to discomfort, there may be some redness and swelling in the treatment area which will resolve within a day or two of your laser rejuvenation procedure. Discomfort can be managed successfully with over-the-counter medications, and swelling may be lessened through use of ice packs. You may be asked to refrain from heavy lifting or certain types of exercise or activity during the healing process, and creams or gels may be given to promote healing. Your specialist will give you specific guidance on any steps you should take to speed your recovery.

What will my results be like?
You will notice immediate results following your laser vaginal rejuvenation procedure, and those results will become more apparent a few days following the procedure as any residual swelling or redness dissipates. Vaginal rejuvenation enjoys a 96% satisfaction rate among the women who undergo the procedure, resulting in increased self-confidence, grater comfort, and overall enhanced sexual pleasure.

What are the risks?
The risks of laser vaginal rejuvenation are minimal, and may include laser burns which generally subside soon after the procedure. Most women experience only minor side effects, including swelling, redness, discomfort and occasional bruising, all of which usually resolve within a day or two of the procedure. Some more extensive procedures may require an overnight hospital stay, and involve a few days of missed work.

Is laser vaginal rejuvenation covered by insurance companies?
When performed solely for cosmetic purposes, laser vaginal rejuvenation is not covered by major medical insurance carriers. However, in cases where women may have incontinence, either as a result of childbirth, aging, or other factors, medical insurance may cover at least a portion of the costs of laser vaginal rejuvenation. In these cases, be sure to talk with your specialist and your insurance carrier to determine whether or not the procedure will be covered.

How much does laser vaginal rejuvenation cost?
The costs of your laser vaginal rejuvenation procedure will vary based on the type and number of procedures you select. In most cases, both laser vaginoplasty and laser labiaplasty procedures costs range from about $2,500 to $6,000. Laser perineoplasty costs range from $3,500 to $5,500 for most women. Some specialists charge less when multiple procedures are performed. Complete laser vaginal rejuvenation packages can range from $6,500 to $8,000 and more. Talk with your specialist to determine the nature and cost of your vaginal rejuvenation.
