Planning a Mommy Makeover

For many the dream of having a mommy makeover never becomes a reality.  There are many reasons that women cannot have the mommy makeover they desire one of which is poor planning.  Deciding to have a mommy makeover is only the first step in the right direction.  The next steps involve carefully, and patiently, planning for the procedures that you wish to have performed and determining how to accomplish your ultimate goals.

Picking out Procedures

The first thing that you should do is determine what sort of procedures you wish to have performed on you.  This can be done by focusing on your trouble areas that you have not been able to work on effectively on your own.  Once you have identified you trouble areas and decided what procedures you wish to have completed it is time to go schedule your first consultation.

The Initial Consultation

During your consultation it is important that you bring a list of questions that you might have and you should be prepared to write down the answers.  It is best to see only one plastic surgeon that can provide all of the treatments you require since this will help avoid conflicting opinions, procedures, and medications in the future.  Also, try to find a plastic surgeon that is experienced with mommy makeover and postpartum cosmetic surgery.  They will have a better understanding of your immediate goals and personal desires.  During the pre-surgery consultation you should find out the amount of time it will take to complete all of the surgeries that you want to have completed.  Also you should find out what activities you should abstain from before the surgery.

In most cases your plastic surgeon will specify that you wait at least six months after child birth or the end of breast feeding to complete the surgery.  You will also be asked to wait at least 12 weeks between surgeries to help avoid complications and speed up your recovery time.  Some plastic surgeons will be willing to combine abdominoplasty or liposuction with a tummy tuck but that is only if you are in relatively good health and have successfully gone through other plastic surgeries.  Pay attention to any information you are given regarding recovery time and post operative visits and care since how well you follow the doctor’s advice after the surgery will often affect the results of your surgery.

The Cost of a Mommy Makeover

Planning for the total cost of the mommy makeover is the part that most mothers dread.  Since the surgeries are all cosmetic they will not be covered by insurance.  For breast surgeries, liposuction, and tummy tucks expect to spend several thousand dollars out of pocket for the surgeries and follow up visits.  Some doctors will offer flexible payment plans and financing to help you meet your surgery needs.
