When will the Results Show After Lipoplasty Surgery?

Liposuction, or lipoplasty, is a great way to contour your body; this procedure can’t be beat when attempting to get rid of “love handles” or the ever popular “saddle bags”.  One drawback, however, is that there is no instant gratification because the body takes up to several months to heal.  Liposuction involves the insertion of a cannula into fatty tissue.  The fatty tissue is then extracted from the body.  The surgeon performing the liposuction usually injects large amount of fluid that contains saline, a local anesthetic and usually a medicine that constricts blood vessels under the patient’s skin.  The combination of these two parts of the procedure can cause significant swelling and bruising and after several weeks there will be a big improvement in appearances.  However, up to six months can go by before the patient sees the final results.

Healing After Liposuction

After a liposuction, patients need to follow their surgeons plan for their recovery.  It is important that they have adequate pain control, do appropriate amounts of activity and wear their supportive undergarments to prevent excessive jiggling of the skin.  These measures should promote optimal healing and will help to move the patient’s recovery along as quickly as possible.  The patient will be able to see the results as quickly as possible if he or she does exactly what the surgeon recommends.

Consult With a Professional

Patients considering liposuction should see a plastic surgeon that can assist them in developing a plan for surgery and recovery from a liposuction procedure.  An experienced surgeon will best be able to assist patients in their pre and post operative care.
