Laser Lipo Surgery

Laser lipo is a specialized procedure that utilizes the latest in technology to treat areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.  Laser liposuction, or laser lipolysis, is an improvement on traditional forms of liposuction in that it uses a special laser to assist in breaking up fat cells before they are removed from the body.  Laser lipo is not only less invasive than traditional liposuction, many surgeons feel that laser liposuction provides better results.  Laser lipolysis can also result in quicker recovery times than traditional liposuction.  Laser lipo prices vary from surgeon to surgeon and are also dependent on the areas being treated.

Laser Liposuction Procedure

Laser liposuction is usually done in an office or same day surgery setting under local anesthesia.  General anesthesia is not necessary for this type of liposuction, which also decreases the risks of the procedure.  Firs the surgeon uses a laser to break up fat cells under the skin and a small incision is made in order for the surgeon to insert a cannula, or small tube, to suck the fat cells out of the body.  The surgeon also injects some tumescent fluid, which is a combination of saline, a local anesthetic and a medicine to assist with bleeding into the tissue before fat cells are removed.

Risks of Laser Liposuction

Risks of laser liposuction are limited due to the procedure being performed with only a local anesthetic, but some risks include:

  • Infection
  • Swelling and bruising
  • Skin burns
  • Skin loss
  • Anesthetic risks (allergies, sensitivities to medications used)
  • Contour deformities
  • Loose or sagging skin

Recovery After Laser Lipo Surgery

Recovery time is greatly improved with laser lipo compared to other type of liposuction and body contouring procedures.  Because a laser is used, there is usually minimal blood loss because the laser assists in sealing blood vessels.  There are usually only very small incisions.  Complete recovery is possible after laser liposuction in just several weeks, with some return to normal activity after several days.

Laser Liposuction Cost

Laser lipo prices vary greatly depending on the type of laser used and the areas of the body that are treated.  Generally laser liposuction is less expensive than traditional liposuction.  Prices can range from $1500 to $15,000.
