Yag Laser

The term YAG Laser refers to the laser surgery called yttrium aluminum garnet. This type of laser is commonly used for eye surgery. One way that the YAG laser can be used is to place a hole in the iris of the eye. This is done to reduce the amount of pressure that has increased in the eye due to conditions such as acute angle closure glaucoma. This type of glaucoma creates a sudden increase in the amount of pressure located in the anterior chamber of the eye. This is caused by a stoppage of the normal circulation of fluids within the eye itself. The YAG laser can also be used for removal of birth marks and for the removal of cataracts.
