The TRAM Flap surgery is also known medically as the transverse rectus abdominus myocutaneous procedure. This surgical procedure is normally preformed on a woman after a mastectomy, or the removal of a breast. The procedure focuses on moving tissue, fat and skin from the stomach region (this is where it gets its name, from the transverse rectus abdominus muscle that is located in the stomach.) The removed tissue is then used to reconstruct the breast. It will not look just like a breast, but does offer an improvement over those situations where there is no breast at all.
