Temporal Aponeurosis

Aponeurosis are layers of broad, flat tendons. They have a very modest supply of blood vessels and nerves. They are located in different areas of the body, including the face. Temporal refers to the temple region of the face. Thus, temporal aponeurosis refers to the aponeurosis which is located near the temporal region of the face. In the world of plastic surgery, the term temporal aponeurosis means to lift the aponeurosis upward and closer to the temporal region of the face; hence, the term 'face lift'. The procedure has been around since the 1970's, and is still the most common one performed in facial cosmetic surgery. This form of facelift leaves the patient ambulatory, and has a very low rate of complications.
