Telangiectasia

Telangiectasia are small dilated blood vessels found close to the surface of the skin. They are small in diameter, measuring only between 0.5 and 1 millimeter. Although they are most often seen in the facial region, they can develop anywhere on the body. The preferred method of removing telangiectasia in the legs is with a procedure called sclerotherapy, in which a medication is injected into the vessels, causing them to shrink. The same procedure is used to treat varicose veins. If sclerotherapy is not effective in treating telangiectasia, then laser treatments may be recommended. Laser treatments are used first on telangiectasia located on the face. A light beam is pulses onto the vein and seals them off, causing them to dissolve.
