Sun Spots

The medical term for sun spots is solar lentigines. They are also referred to as liver spots or age spots. Sun spots may develop at any age, and they usually appear on the hands and face. They are a result of the skin being exposed to ultraviolet light (PUVA) or from over use of a tanning booth. Sun spots are not serious, but can make a person self-conscious. Treatment for sun spots include collagen injections to replace the body's collagen that's been damaged by the sun, chemical peels to strip away the dead skin cells and damaged outer layer of the skin, and pulsed light therapy and laser skin resurfacing. The best way to treat sun spots is to avoid them altogether by protecting your skin from the sun's harmful rays.
