Spider Vein

The spider vein in most cases is unsightly but not painful. Spider veins are groups of dilated blood vessels that lie just below the surface of the skin and so are visible. They do not represent a serious condition and that's why medical insurance normally does not cover treatment. Because the veins are not attractive, many choose to have them treated despite having to pay for the treatment out of pocket. Spider veins usually appear in a pattern and can sometimes cover a large area. A doctor can perform a spider vein treatment after first determining there is not an underlying medical issue. One treatment for the removal of spider veins is called a sclerotherapy and is a very common cosmetic surgery procedure. Another spider vein treatment is laser removal. Both procedures are usually painless, safe, and do not require anesthesia.
