Smas Facelift

The SMAS facelift is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to lift sagging jowls or cheeks. SMAS stands for Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System. This is a common facelift procedure because sagging cheeks and jowls often become the first serious signs of aging. The Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System is the set of muscles in the face that begin to sag during aging. The facelift procedure involves making an incision around the hairline and behind the ears. The skin and underlying tissue is lifted and tightened. Though this is a common procedure, it still has risks associated with it. They include infection, pain that does not go away, scarring, and uneven facial appearance. Using a surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons is important for getting quality care.
