Skin needling is a fairly new skin treatment that is used to reduce the appearance of scarring. It is also used to fill in deep wrinkles. The more scientific name for the treatment is Facial Mesotherapy. It is also called Collagen Induction Therapy because the premise underlying the treatment is that tiny skin puncture wounds will trigger skin growth as part of a natural healing process. Most of the time a skin roller, able to make many tiny pinpricks in the skin at once, is used. The tiny skin wounds then heal by producing collagen and elastin and those two natural substances fill out wrinkles and scars. One of the advantages of this procedure for many people is that the upper skin layer does not have to be removed like with dermabrasions and laser treatments. Skin needling claims to smooth wrinkles, improve acne scarring, improve stretch marks, and treat old surgical scars.
