We have all heard the expressions, “You are what you eat” and “Beauty comes from within”. These expressions may contain more truth than you know.

In today’s world, much emphasis is placed on your appearance. It is difficult to escape the barrage of magazines, television shows, and movies showcasing how one should look, when the reality is sometimes we all need a little help!

Nutrition and Appearance

Eating a balanced, nutritional diet is one way we can help ourselves to improve our appearance. We are all aware of the importance of good nutrition. After all, we have this concept drilled into us from a young age. Life, however, sometimes gets in the way, and we find ourselves eating foods that are unhealthy for us and, as a consequence, we are unhappy with our appearance which stems from our fast-paced lives and poor diets. Consuming an inadequate diet can lead to dry, lifeless hair, brittle nails, and skin that may have blemishes or acne, be dry and flaky, or wrinkling at a too-rapid rate.

Diet Essentials

The journey to a fit, healthy body and appearance is through consuming a diet containing all of the nutrients we are so often lacking. We may often feel that eating healthy requires a huge time and monetary commitment. The truth is, eating a healthy diet is less expensive than prepared foods and does not have to take a long time to prepare.

The first step in learning to eat healthy is learning what your body needs, in terms of what essentials are required for health and a healthy appearance. It is important to know what each of these essential components are, why they are necessary, and how to choose foods that are good representatives of each group.

Putting Together a Healthy Diet

During the following series of articles, we plan to guide you through each of these categories, describing what each is and explaining how to include enough of each in your diet; for example:

We will also discuss those things that should be avoided (or eaten in moderation) in order to look as good on the outside as you will feel on the inside:

A healthy body, hair, skin, and nails do not have to cost a fortune. They are yours for the taking when you commit to eating nutritiously. Including the proper amounts of these essential nutrients will ensure that you look and feel your best, the way nature intended.
