About Robert Jackson, MD FACS

Dr. Robert Jackson has practiced in Indiana for over 25 years. He has 30 years of surgery experience. His background in the field of cosmetic surgery is extensive. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, largest multidisciplinary educational organization devoted exclusively to cosmetic surgery. When discussing the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery there is obvious pride in the organization. As a member of the board of trustees and one of the examiners of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Jackson feels he is helping to shape the future of cosmetic surgery in the United States. Dr. Jackson is the current president of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. He is a past president of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and has also served three years as treasurer.

He has over 25 years experience in the field of cosmetic surgery and served as the Chairman of the Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction Task Force for the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. In that role, Dr. Jackson has published many articles in national and international medical journals as well as various textbooks. He has routinely been invited to be a faculty member of body contouring courses in both the United States and internationally including liposuction, breast surgery, facial laser surgery, ultrasonic assisted lipo-sculpturing and low level laser assisted liposuction. Low level Laser Assisted Liposuction is the newest technique in body contouring. The technique markedly reduces post-operative discomfort, swelling and bruising. It helps in achieving a much smoother contour. When asked about the safety and effectiveness of liposuction, Dr. Jackson, one of the pioneers in the field, states that Tumescent liposuction is the safest cosmetic surgery procedure done today. He states that for both men and women who want to loose those unsightly bulges and resculpture their body, liposuction is a well proven procedure that will accomplish that goal. Endoscopic cosmetic surgery is another relatively new field in which Dr. Jackson has had extensive experience.

He and his son, Dr. Thomas L. Jackson who is a plastic surgeon in Columbus, Indiana, developed their own technique for tightening the abdominal muscles using very small incisions similar to that used for gallbladder surgery. Dr. Jackson has stated, "A combination of ultrasonic assisted liposculpturing, routine liposuction and, if necessary, endoscopic cosmetic surgery with good pre- and post-operative care can give both men and women the best body contouring results today." Widely known for his expertise in the area of breast augmentation and reduction, Dr. Jackson states " The form and shape of the female breast in our culture is extremely important to women and their self-esteem."

Having performed hundreds of breast augmentations with great success, his extensive experience in breast surgery makes him well qualified to evaluate the various implants and surgical techniques that are available. However, not all women are interested in breast augmentation. For medical reasons many are interested in breast reduction to alleviate back and shoulder pain, headaches, excoriation of the skin underneath the breast and breast discomfort. Having studied with some of the most qualified surgeons in in America and Europe when asked about the future of cosmetic surgery Dr. Jackson states, "With all of the minimally invasive techniques and with the new technology we are just now at the tip of the iceberg in America to discovering new ways to achieve the body contour that each of us desires."
