Dr. Colen graduated from Colgate University in 1972, where he was awarded for his outstanding academic achievement. After graduating from the Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire, Dr. Colen went on to complete his residency training in general surgery and plastic surgery at the University of California in San Francisco. Upon completion of his Plastic Surgery Residency, he was invited back to Dartmouth Medical School to be Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery. In the spring of 1990 Dr. Colen came to Norfolk, VA to practice with the Horton Adamson Plastic Surgery Group. During this time, Dr. Colen also assumed a position with the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) as Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery and residency training program director.
