Saline Gel Implants

Saline gel implants are a newer form of implant. In traditional saline implants, the component found within the implant shell is saline fluid. This is a fluid comprised of a salt-water solution, quite similar to the mixtures already found in body fluid. The gel version of the saline gel implants is quite similar in composition. Researchers have designed these breast implants to provide a more solid mass. Although the gel is still a soft solid, it is less likely to leak and less likely to move like a liquid. This provides individuals with a more natural appearance. When touched, the gel material will still give way, but much less than that of traditional saline fluid filled breast implants. The FDA for several manufacturers has recently approved saline gel implants for use within the United States.
