Concentric Mastopexy
Along with other types of plastic surgery, breast-related procedures are significantly on the rise, and one of the most popular is the breast lift, or mastopexy. A mastopexy is performed to reduce sagging and produce more firm and shapely breasts. However, it can leave significant scarring. For those with smaller and less pronounced sagging, a "doughnut" mastopexy, or concentric mastopexy, can be performed in the surgeon's office using a local anesthesia. This procedure is done by drawing and cutting concentric circles around the areola, moving the nipple and areola upward, and suturing the surrounding skin into place. While there may be puckering in the new placement, this usually adjusts and disappears in a few weeks. If a surgeon believes it will not do so on its own, they may make an additional incision down from the areola to the bottom of the breast and remove some of the excess skin.
