Neck Lift

Neck lift surgery is a plastic surgery procedure that can easily make you look like you’ve lost a lot of weight. Excess fat, loose skin or a “wobbly” neck can make you look both older and heavier than you may actually be. There are a number of reasons this can occur – sometimes it’s a genetic predisposition, other times you may have actually lost some weight and just have lots of excess skin. Regardless of the cause, a neck lift may be your solution with the help of a plastic surgeon or md doctor near you.

What’s Involved in Neck Lift Plastic Surgery?

There are a couple of different procedures that make up a neck lift surgery. The procedure to remove excess skin is called cervicoplasty, whereas platysmaplasty is the process by which neck muscles are altered. If you decide to get a neck lift, you should plan on a surgery that will last roughly three hours.

In the time leading up to neck lift surgery, there are a few important precautions. The time immediately prior and after the surgery, you want to be extra healthy: that means you must eat full, healthy meals (no dieting!), and quit smoking if you smoke. Following these guidelines will help ensure a quick, safe recovery period.

Preparing for Recovery After Neck Surgery

Before the neck lift surgery, you’ll want to prepare your recovery area to ensure that everything goes to plan. Since you’ll be lying down for several days following the neck lift, you want to make sure you have everything you need nearby. You’ll want a telephone in reaching distance if you need call your doctor, as well as medical supplies like gauze, ice packs, anti-bacterial creams, etcetera. You’ll also want to be comfortable during recovery, so have comfy clothes and pillows at hand. If all goes well, you should be back to full strength in less than two weeks.

The Cost of Neck Lift Surgery

Costs for neck lifts vary depending on the number of associated procedures and each individual surgeon. Consult with your dr or surgeon for an accurate estimate, but expect to pay no less than $3,000, possibly as much as $15,000.

Are There Any Risks?

For the most part, side effects involved in a neck lift are the same you’d expect in any surgery. There’s the normal risk of infection, or possibility of allergies to anesthesia. You can expect some bruising and sometimes numbness, or tightness in the altered area. These symptoms are common and should subside. However, if you contract a fever or have any unusual discharge, immediately contact your neck dr as soon as possible.
