Skin Care After Childbirth

Immediately following childbirth few mothers have anytime for themselves.  Their lives revolve around the imperfect schedule of a new baby and others in their home.  This makes it difficult for new mothers to keep up any of their pre-baby routines including skin care. Without proper skin care many women notice that their skin becomes sallow, dehydrated, and unhealthy.  One way to help get skin back on track is taking the time to do some serious skin care.

Microdermabrasion

One way new mothers can treat themselves after childbirth is to take advantage of microdermabrasion services offered at their local spa.  This procedure will help decrease the appearance of lines and acne on the face.  Many new mothers welcome this procedure since the stress of taking care of a new baby is sure to cause acne breakouts and new wrinkles on even the youngest face.

During the microdermabrasion process at a spa the mothers face will be gently scraped using zinc or other natural materials to remove the top layer of skin.  This old skin will be loosened completely and then carefully suctioned away using a small vacuum wand.  Removing this layer of skin will also remove fine lines, acne, and scars that are caused by acne.  The results are usually immediately noticeable and the procedure is painless requiring no anesthetics of any kind.

Chemical Peels

Another way new mothers can treat themselves is to have a chemical peel done at the spa.  Chemical peels provide more extensive results than microdermabrasion and are great for removing deep wrinkles, blemishes on the skin, and acne.  Before a chemical peel is performed it is important that you stop taking any medication, including birth control, because medication can sometimes cause problems with a chemical peel.

When the time comes for your procedure the technician will first carefully clean your skin to remove dirt and oil that is in your pores.  After that a chemical will be placed on your face that, when dry, can be peeled away.  Once the chemical is peeled away it removes a layer of old skin with it leaving your own skin fresh and rejuvenated.  Some women experience tingling after a chemical peel but there is usually no pain.  You will be given sun block lotion which you must use to prevent sunburn.

The Cost

Chemical peels and microdermabrasion are both extremely affordable making them the perfect treat for new mothers on a budget.  Microdermabrasion costs anywhere from $40 to $100 when done in a spa while chemical peels cost between $100 and $300 for a mild treatment at a local spa.
