Facial Liposuction
Liposuction can be performed on many parts of the body with great success. In the past, many have assumed that liposuction was only an option for areas with large amounts of fatty deposits such as the thighs or buttocks. Liposuction can also be successfully performed in many other areas of the body, however. Facial liposuction is gaining popularity as a procedure, because it can quickly and in a minimally invasive manner remove unattractive fat stores and allow patients to be able to look and feel more attractive.
What Is Facial Liposuction?
Facial liposuction is, quite simply, the removal of fatty stores from a patient's face. The procedure, becoming increasingly common, can also be referred to as facial contouring. While traditional liposuction used for other areas of the body may use larger-sized cannula to isolate and remove the largest amount of fatty deposits at once, facial liposuction is performed used very delicate cannula instead. Much smaller in diameter, these smaller cannula can be inserted into the face or neck area with only the tiniest of incisions and can then carefully remove just those fatty cells that are standing in the way of retaining a youthful and sculpted appearance. Often, the incisions are completely hidden once the cannula is removed, leaving behind no lasting marks to indicate that the procedure has been performed.
How is Facial Liposuction Performed?
Facial liposuction can be performed either alone or as a part of another facial contouring procedure such as a face lift or cheek contouring or a brow lift. Your plastic surgeon can best help you to determine if you should have the procedure performed on its own or if your facial contouring would have a more dramatic effect if performed with another procedure as well.Â
During facial liposuction, the entry point of the cannula is numbed to minimize any discomfort or pain that might be experienced. The cannula is then slid carefully into the small incision point. The plastic surgeon will carefully move the cannula to the areas where fatty deposits are located to either completely remove them from the area or diminish their supply. This creates a sleeker, more refined look. The cannula is then carefully removed through the incision point.Â
Depending on the size of the cannula used, the incision area may require one or two small stitches to be closed. The plastic surgeon will then move on the any other areas that will need liposuction treatment, or if another procedure is to be performed, will begin on that. Afterwards, you will wear a dressing over the treated area for just a few days, but a hospital stay is not necessary. You'll be released from the doctor's care and advised to rest for a day or so and then be ready to head back into life with a more-sculpted face to lead you!
