Breast Lift

A breast lift is usually performed by the insertion of breast implants. When breasts droop due to age or size, they are not as attractive and may cause low self esteem or be unattractive to her husband or boyfriend. These are the main reasons why a woman would have breast enhancement or enlargement.

How the Procedure Works

The breast lift procedure is actually not that complicated. It involves the insertion of breast implants in order to increase the size and improve the shape of the breasts. After they are inserted, breasts will have a lifted shape and be much more attractive. By this point, the procedure is standardized enough that it can be performed on an outpatient basis. The techniques by which breast enhancement surgery may be accomplished are always changing. Most of the time, breast implants are inserted through the under fold of the breast; other options include through the armpit or even through the belly button.

The Recovery Process

When you have breast lift surgery, you will be back to work in as little as three to seven days. If you have a strenuous job though, you will probably be advised to rest for an additional two to three weeks. You can expect to have some uncomfortable side effects as well. These usually consist of the following: soreness, swelling, change in nipple sensation, bruising, and an increase or decrease in nipple sensation. These side effects may last for some time, even up to three to six months, so be prepared for this.

The Cost of Breast Lift Surgery

While getting a breast lift may not be the most expensive kind of plastic surgery, it still carries quite a large price tag. As a matter of fact, it may cost $3,000 to $4,000. Saline implants are generally slightly less expensive than the silicone gel ones.

The Risks Involved with Breast Lifts

Like other cosmetic surgery procedures, a breast lift will carry with it certain risks. These risks usually will result in the removal or replacement of the breast implants. What happens is that breast implants are prone to cause problems such as deflation, pain, bleeding, and may form scar tissue around them which can cause the breasts to become hard and uncomfortable. Another problem that they can cause is unreliable mammography readings. For this reason, different procedures may be used.
