A facelift is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to give the patient a youthful appearance. The goal of this type of surgery is to remove excess skin with or without causing the underlying facial tissues to tighten. Once this is accomplished the surgeon will re-drape the patient's skin on their facial and neck areas to achieve the desired appearance. The most common incisions for a face lift are found in front of the ear and rise into the hairline. This type of incision is easy to camouflage after surgery. Many patients are extremely happy with the results of their first face lift and return for a second face lift. An example of this includes a patient who previously had excess skin removed from her cheeks and neck and returns to have eye work done. Plastic surgeons attempt to limit the number of procedures a patient has under their care. A second face lift is considered perfectly normal but there is concern with women who become addicted to plastic surgery and have procedures every six months.
